MORE THAN 700 REFEREES GATHER AT THE VII RETRAINING DAYS AT HOTEL ANTEQUERA
Over 700 football referees gathered this morning for the VII Retraining Days, an event organised annually by the refereeing community at Hotel Antequera. These days were opened by the President of the Federación Andaluza de Fútbol (Andalusian Football Federation), Eduardo Herrera and the Mayor of Antequera, Manuel Baron. They were joined by the President of the Comité Técnico Andaluz de Árbitros, Felipe Santos, the Counselor for Sports from the Local Government of Antequera, Alberto Vallespín, the Antequera referees, José Luis Romero and Mario Stops Melero, and the representative from the sub-delegation of Antequera referees, José Toro. This year the Andalusian Referee Technical Committee (CTAAF) and Refereeing Centre for Excellence (CETARA), as event organisers, prepared a list of top-level talks from people such as Juan José Fernández Liano, a physical trainer at Referees Technical Committee (CTA); Carlos del Cerro Grande, a first division referee; Rubinos Antonio Perez, head of the Talents and Mentors Programme; and Pedro Medina Hernández, a former international assistant referee. During the conference, Fernandez Liano was responsible for delivering a lecture on "The Physical performance of a football referee" while Del Cerro Grande offered a talk on "The body language of referees." Rubinos Pérez also gave a presentation focussing on "Development and the current situation of the Talents and Mentors Program," while Medina Hernández spoke about "The work of the assistant referee." The technical director of the Andalusian Football Referees Committee, Rafael Ramírez Domínguez, gave a brief talk on the second edition of the Andalusian Refereeing Camp, which will run from 28 June to 1 July 2013 at Antequera's facilities. To end the refereeing conference, the speakers, along with first division Andalusian referees, participated in a roundtable. After the opening ceremony, commemorative gifts from the city of Antequera were distributed to the political and sporting organisations that participated in this event. Furthermore, the José Gallardo Award was established and dedicated to the deceased former president of the Malaga Delegation of Referees.. This year, the award was given by the widow of the ex-referee to the delegate of the Almeria Referees Committee, Rafael Martínez. The event was sponsored by Antequera, the Diputación Provincial de Málaga, Patronato Deportivo Municipal, Federación Andaluza de Fútbol, Comité Técnico Andaluz de Árbitros and CETARA.
